Mixed Media Mosaics

Zorra Creative Fox Studio is my mosaic name,
under which I create unique, one of a kind items

from mixed media and found objects.

 The Name

Zorra Creative Fox is a “spirit name” that I generated during ZOETICA, a nine-month workshop for moms looking to rediscover creative energies. This was a time of rebirth for me in many ways–it began my focused effort to make time for creativity in my life on a more regular basis. My mosaic work is a result of that creative energy.

The Process

It Takes Time

The mosaic process is a multiple-step, multi-day process: first designing and completing the layout of the object (or you can work on nipping china into pieces and then working with the china…I do both depending on my mood/inspiration).

Gluing a Puzzle From My Brain

Once I have the design the way I think it will work I’ll start to glue the tesserae down. These are anything that you use in a mosaic, and I like to take that definition literally using all sorts of found objects like beads, jewelry, kids toys, rocks and more in my mosaics. After the pieces have cured in place for 24 hours, it’s then time to grout.

Final Steps

After grouting is the cleaning process. I often will scrub pieces with vinegar and a toothbrush and then use specialized picks to make sure the piece is free from errant grout. Then it’s ready for photographs and posting.
